Machete Attack at Grand Central Leaves 3 Injured Before Police Fatally Shoot Suspect

A violent incident unfolded at Grand Central Terminal in New York City on April 11, when a man armed with a machete attacked several people before being shot by police.

The suspect, identified as Anthony Griffin, was 44 years old. Authorities say he entered the subway system earlier that morning in Queens and took a train to Grand Central. During the journey, he was reportedly acting strangely and repeatedly referred to himself as “Lucifer.

Shortly after arriving at the busy station, he began attacking people. An 84-year-old man suffered injuries to his head and face. The suspect then moved to another platform, where he injured a 70-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man. All three victims were rushed to the hospital and were reported to be in stable condition.

Officers from the New York Police Department responded quickly after receiving reports of the attack. When they confronted Griffin, they gave him multiple commands to drop the weapon and tried to calm the situation. However, he did not comply and instead moved toward the officers while still holding the machete.

Police then shot him to stop the threat. He was taken to a hospital but later died from his injuries. Two officers were also taken to the hospital, though their conditions were stable.

Officials said the attack appeared to be random, and there is no indication that the victims knew the suspect. It was also reported that Griffin had a record of previous arrests.

Following the incident, parts of the station were temporarily closed off as investigations continued, and some train services were disrupted.

Zohran Mamdani later commented on the situation, thanking the police for their quick action in preventing further harm. He also confirmed that an internal review would take place, and body camera footage from the officers involved would be released as part of standard procedure.

The incident has raised concerns about safety in one of the city’s busiest transport hubs, though authorities emphasized that the situation was quickly brought under control.
